Silky Oaks has been on Manly Road since 1987.
Dr Paul Mercer opened the practice, has trained generations of registrars here, and still consults on Fridays. That is the whole idea, really. Doctors who stay, in a practice that stays, looking after the same bayside families year after year.
Our GPs are male and female, working alongside practice nurses, a midwife and allied health under the one roof. Some consult in Cantonese, Mandarin, Hindi, Gujarati, Russian, Sinhalese, Tamil, Malay or Hokkien. We look after Wynnum, Manly, Lota, Tingalpa and the suburbs around them, six days a week.

Dr Asanga Abeykoon
Dr Abeykoon brings experience from rural, regional and metropolitan hospitals across Australia, with interests in procedural medicine, education and patient-centred care. Away from the clinic he enjoys road trips, hiking, cinema and music.

Dr Piyawoot ‘Pi’ Songsiritat
MBBS, FRACGP, BComSci
Dr Pi graduated from the University of Queensland in 2016 and moved into general practice after several years in public hospitals. In his free time he enjoys his family, home cooking and writing computer programs for fun.

Dr Tarsem ‘Taz’ Madhar
MBBS FRACGP
Dr Taz trained at Newcastle University and worked across UK hospitals before moving to Australia in 2014, with a keen interest in chronic disease management and geriatrics. He has completed additional training in skin cancer medicine and offers full skin checks and skin cancer surgery.

Dr Eleasa Sieh
MBBS, FRACGP
Dr Eleasa received her RACGP fellowship in 2017 and has particular interests in women's health, mental health and lifestyle medicine. She holds the RANZCOG Diploma and Level 2 Mental Health Skills Training, and offers Focussed Psychological Strategies sessions.

DR STEVEN ASHBURN
FRACGP, MBBS, BSc
Dr Steven graduated from the University of Queensland in 2013 and spent a number of years working in paediatrics before GP training. He has a particular interest in preventative medical care, and in family and child health.

DR JILL WARLOW
MB ChB, Dip Obstetrics
Dr Jill is a part-time Senior GP whose expertise spans women's health, paediatrics, mental health counselling and antenatal care. She performs Implanon procedures, assists in surgical procedures, and offers ADHD assessments for existing patients of the practice.

MBBS
Dr Patel has been looking after this community for longer than most other GPs at the practice. He is passionate about mental health, and has special interests in chronic disease management including diabetes, COPD and chronic pain.

Dr Siva is a part-time senior GP with further interests in general surgery, skin cancer and dermatology. Outside of work he enjoys cycling, golfing, badminton and gardening.

Dr Tran is a GP Registrar completing her first year of general practice training under the supervision of our experienced GPs. Originally from Sydney, she completed her Bachelor of Exercise and Nutrition Science and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Queensland.

Dr Fong brings over twenty years of clinical experience across critical care, anaesthetics, emergency medicine and general practice. His special interests include comprehensive patient care, palliative care and emergency interventions.

DR CHARLOTTE RAMIN
MBBS (Hons Class 1)
Dr Charlotte graduated from the University of Queensland in 2015 and began her career at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, developing a strong interest in general and emergency medicine. She then spent several years at a regional hospital in Nienburg, Germany, before returning home in 2023.

Dr Paul established Silky Oaks Medical Practice in 1987 and has developed skills in chronic disease care, addiction medicine, mental health, palliative and aged care, and minor procedures. He has trained and mentored more than ninety registrars during his career, and chairs the international NGO Health Serve Australia.
